Lesser Shortwing at Ulu Kali, Genting

It has been quite a few months that I haven't share my birding experience in this blog. Last week I had opportunity to go birding in Ulu Kali, Genting on my way to my home town. There were a few birders who came earlier than me but left about half an hour after I arrived. I was then alone waiting for bird waves and was lucky to get a few shots at Lesser Shortwing which is lifer for me. I also managed to get shots of other birds such as Large Niltava, Black eared Shrike Babbler, Grey throated Babbler and Streaked Wren Babbler.

Family of Snowy Browed Flycatcher at Ulu Kali, Genting

Since the beginning of Ramadan, I had limit my outdoor activities to only a few. One of these few trip was to Gunung Ulu Kali. I was hopeful to see a glimpse of Cutia. I also hope to see the Lesser Shortwing as other birder told me that he heard the song of the bird. I obviously failed to get these two birds. However, I managed to take a few photos of this family of Snowy browed Flycatcher.

KSNP Revisit...

I haven't gone to Kuala Selangor Nature Park for almost two years. Since I currently have a lot of free time, I decided to there last Saturday morning. I reached there around 8.30 and the car park is empty; I'm the first visitor that morning. The lighting were quite poor due to little drizzle. Nevertheless, I got a few shots  of Coppersmith Barbets (didn't include because the quality is quite poor) and a family of Asian glossy Starling at the car park. The park is full with long tailed macaques, silvery langurs and yellow vented bulbul. There is also a lot of Brahminy Kite flying around but also a lot of mosquitoes. I came quite off the migrating season therefore only a few of the egrets and herons left but I still have a very good time there.

Silver Breasted Broadbill of Bukit Tinggi

During the birding trip at Genting last week, a fellow birder told me about Silver Breasted Broadbill at Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. In was a very tempting news. So, in the early Sunday morning, I drive myself to Bukit Tinggi and reach there around 7.30am. However, the road to the Japanese Garden, the spot where the Silver Breasted are seen were closed and only open at 10.00am. After persuading the Nepalese guards, they agree to let me go to the Japanese Garden.I was greet by Black Crested Bulbul and Ashy Bulbul. I was then joined other fellow birders and luckily get the chance to see the Silver Breasted Broadbill. We then walk around and look for Siamang (a very large gibbon) which frequently seen around there.

Sweet Spot of Genting.

For most of the peoples, Genting is associated with theme park and casino but birders know that it has more than those. As for me, I decided to go birding at Genting for the first time and due to lack of info/preparation, I end up taking a run around at the top of Genting. Luckily, I manage to find the spot and it was a very sweet spot for me.
